I always roll my eyes at "montage" reels from DP's as they demonstrate little other than an editor's ability to weave together a series of pretty yet incongruous images with a lovely piece of music that says nothing about the cinematographer's experience or sensibilities. So of course... here's mine. Sneers noted.
The Bellevue Collection: One spot from a television campaign for a luxury shopping, dining and entertainment center in Bellevue, Washington. Designed to create a sense of the northwest lifestyle, this type of spot is especially fun to shoot as they're highly styled and art directed but the connect with the models is really free and playful.
The Yonkofa Project: Television commercial filmed in Ghana, western Africa promoting the medical and humanitarian efforts of The Yonkofa ("Friendship for Life") Project.
New York Fashion Week Video: A behind the scenes look as one sponsor readies for New York's glamorous and hectic Fashion Week.
Meet The Pippens: Television series pilot following NBA Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen, his "Real Housewives of Miami" celebrity wife, Larsa Pippen and their 4 children carving out a normal existence in the wake of a lifetime of fame.
Home Depot: Bobbie's Story: One of my favorite types of work. Just myself and a producer (the extraordinary Joan Karpeles in this case!) hopping around the country, telling stories of Home Depot associates aided in times of great need by the employee funded "Homer Fund". Each story must be filmed in a single day with minimal (if any) crew before flying off to the next city. It's a wonderful exercise in impromptu storytelling and I find it keeps my story chops very sharp. I've always been secretly proud that very few directors and cinematographers can work under these conditions and come away with moving content, pictures and more than a few awards.
On Stable Ground. Bill's Story: From a profile of Dr. Bill Lewis. Princeton, Georgetown and University of London scholar who suffers from bipolar disorder.
Grounded: Federal Aviation Administration video produced by EditLab/Atlanta, Georgia.
Explore Georgia: Tourism video produced by Blue Marble Media/Atlanta, Georgia.
